Committees

Awards Committee

Chair – Denise DeHaas

This committee shall be responsible for: Awards Committee Chair will oversee the submission of all award applications to the appropriate District and Region Chairpersons, to include Governors Cup and Spirit of Soroptimist (chosen by the President).

Public Awareness

This committee shall be responsible for: Promoting favorable relations within the community, enhancing the public image of Soroptimist through local news media as well as social media channels. They will publish notification of the club’s monthly meetings in the local newspaper, arrange for a photographer when needed and send new items or pictures to the Soroptimist Magazine or Regional Bulletin.

Friendship/Book Club

This committee shall be responsible for:

  • Sending cards to Club members on various occasions, such as births, illness, death, etc.
  • Serve as the Club’s contact to inform members of pertinent information regarding other club members.
  • The chair of this committee will make the club aware of the North Atlantic Region Book Club events.

Laws and Resolutions

This committee shall be responsible for:

  • Implementing any federation law changes or any regional changes which affect the Club.
  • Review the by-laws annually and prepare any necessary amendments as requested by the Board of Directors for presentation to the Club.

Finance Committee

This committee shall be responsible for:

  • Preparing and presenting a proposed budget for the Club’s fiscal year, July 1 through June 30, at the May meeting.
  • Presenting a final budget at the June meeting for adoption.
  • Audit the treasurer’s records at the end of each fiscal year.

Membership/Growth and Development

This committee shall be responsible for:

  • Promoting Club growth and development by increasing its membership through an annual membership event.
  • Ensure the prospective members are well informed as to the Club’s goals and purposes.
  • Conduct orientation training educating members as to heritage, purpose, objectives, policies, and programs of Soroptimist.
  • Preparing members for leadership within the club.
  • Responsible for the buying of the pins.
  • Requesting memorial donations for club members and their relatives.
  • Once the chair and co-chair develop ideas for the event and are ready to begin planning, the club will ask for members to assist and form an Ad Hoc committee at that time.

Programs of Service

This committee shall be responsible for:

  • Proposing activities and services that align with the Mission and Vision of Soroptimist International of the Americas.
  • Implementing programs approved by the Club for the club year.
  • Preparing and presenting a schedule of service projects with applicable budget to the club, for inclusion in the annual club budget.
  • The Live Your Dream Award, Violet Richardson Award, Ethel F. Lord Fellowship; and Dream it Be It Program have their own chair-persons, function independently but are categorized as Programs supported by Soroptimist funding.
  • Advertising for qualified candidates through local universities and trade/vocational technical schools for LYD and high schools for Violet Richardson award.
  • Building relationships with local education faculty and staff to help recruit candidates for LYD and Dream it Be it.
  • Recruit a committee to review applications and choose at least one winner and a runner up winner depending on available funds.
  • Submitting club LYD awardee to District IV for consideration for an Award at the North Atlantic Region level.
  • Ethel F. Lord Fellowship Chairperson has the same responsibilities as the chairpersons above, this award is given to a woman veteran to help to pursue her goals after her service to our country. Will assist the applicant in applying for the North Atlantic Region Award.
  • Dream It Be it committee will develop the Dream it Be it Program based on the SIA curriculum.
  • PFEW – Chair is in communication with PFEW and will alert the club to updates in the program.

This committee shall be responsible for:

  • Suggest methods of raising money to meet the annual club budget.
  • Form Ad Hoc committees for fundraising projects approved by the Club – Ad Hoc Committees listed below.

This committee shall be responsible for:

The monthly hostess committee shall be responsible for:

  • Providing an attendance report during the business meeting.
  • Sell raffle tickets or tip board tickets to support the club general fund.
